There is no accounting for some people's taste in dogs. I like wash-and-wear dogs with short coats and prick ears. I like them sassy and clever. Australian Cattle Dogs fit the description, but so do Chihuahuas. Blasphemy!? A world away in design and manner, both breeds nevertheless hold a special place in my heart. And then there's Sally the sociopathic Dachshund. So sharp and sweet, but always with her eye to take advantage of any situation.

Zephyr lays claim to the first muddy paw and dewclaw damage to this year's shirt.
